Introduction

The Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) is an ancient pilgrimage of 800km which traditionally starts in St Jean Pied de Port in Southern France and finishes in Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. According to tradition St. James preached Christianity in Spain, returned to Judea and was put to death by order of Herod; his body was miraculously found in Northern Spain, and was interred in the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. This town, especially during the Middle Ages, became one of the most famous places of pilgrimage in the world.

There are many reasons why people decide to walk the Santiago trail--the intrigue of the unique adventure, the test of endurance and physical challenge, and the cultural and spiritual aspect that inevitably result. For me, journey represents a spiritual renewal in the hope that God would reopen my eyes to the inner light of divine grace that alone can guide us to a true understanding of humanity and of our individual lives. May our eyes be always turned to the Lord in grateful contemplation of the incomprehensible gift of Redemption. Only this way will we know the truth about ourselves and others, and the truth that will set us free.
